Online Retailer Peak Discs Launches Team Peak Discs, Announces First Player Sponsorship Agreement
Increasing presence at tournaments and events across the Triangle area, company looks to emphasize its “throw local, shop local” philosophy.
Apex, N.C. (May 11, 2021) – Peak Discs, an online retailer providing equipment and accessories to the disc golf community, today announced the formation of Team Peak Discs and introduced the first team member, Cary-based Rick Liebling. The sponsorship will launch at this weekend’s tournament at the Deep Creek Dreams course in Burlington, NC.
Peak Discs, which opened in January of 2021, has already developed a large and loyal customer base, due in part to their free, same-day local delivery program, getting the area’s disc golfers what they need, when they need it. This ‘throw local, shop local’ service is unique among local disc golf retailers. Team Peak Discs will represent the retailer at various tournaments and events around the Triangle area, further connecting Peak Discs to the local disc golf community.
In addition to the team formation, Peak Discs also announced the first member of Team Peak Discs, Rick Liebling. The local player has already distinguished himself by turning in 1000+ rated rounds on such legendary courses as Coyote Canyon, Kaho Park, and Sunshine Glade. When not playing Disc Golf Valley he’s also participated in several local tournaments, recording three Top Five finishes in his division so far in 2021. While it is Peak Discs’s policy not to disclose financial details of sponsorship agreements, the company did confirm that the deal with Liebling is less than the one recently signed by Paul McBeth with Discraft.
“To launch Team Peak Discs we wanted to sign someone who was an elite player,” explained Cameron Small, CEO of Peak Discs. “Since no one like that was available we went with Rick.”
In addition to his participation in local tournaments throughout the year, Liebling can be found on local courses several times every week for casual rounds and shares his passion for disc golf via his Instagram account, the.understable. Liebling, who currently has an 857 PDGA rating, has been playing since the Summer of 2020, having transitioned to disc golf from the sport of Ultimate much like other notable disc golfers, Brodie Smith and Ella Hansen.
“When considering possible sponsorship opportunities I had just one criterion: That winning tournaments would not be an expectation,” said Rick Liebling, a PDGA and Capital Area Disc League (CADL) member. “I don’t need that kind of pressure.”
While information regarding future Team Peak Discs players was not available, CEO Small said that if Hailey King or Eagle McMahon were looking for new opportunities they should reach out.
